"For me, the challenge and excitement of directing plays from the past is accepting the responsibility to interpret. The experience of immersing oneself in the world of the playwright and that of the play and finding out where and how those two worlds connect with the present is a thrilling one.

It is also humbling but reassuring to be reminded how many brilliant, extraordinarily perceptive playwrights there have been through the ages who have encapsulated in dramatic form the essence of what it is to be a human being."
